Are you ready for unexpected surface water flooding?

Andy Pedrick

Director, Floodmate Ltd.

Never more than in the month of August has there been better proof that we need a pro-active or dynamic reaction to surface water flooding.

Areas have been suffering significant rainfall leading to flash flooding in all parts of the country. Many areas were warned but it was far from certain where the problem would occur, and when.

What do people do? Do they try and stockpile sandbags - ‘just in case’.? These are difficult for many to port around and put in place and have several other disadvantages such as leakage, soiling and re-usabilty.

With the climate change effect of longer, hotter spells followed by very wet spells, more and more people, now 5.2 million households are more prone to floods due to the run off of the water on the hard, non-absorbent surfaces or the sheer volume of rain in a short spell. This has affected many people in my area of the country for the first time over in recent years.

Many households have realised to their cost during recent events that, although previously away from threats of flooding, they have become now susceptible and everyone needs to re-consider their situation.

What is really required is a portable, re-usable, easily stored, non-intrusive barrier, together with any additional flood prevention accessories that can be requested quickly, put in place quickly, maintains access to their property but avoids the damage, both psychologically and financially, of water entering their property.

A great advantage of having a portable device is that is can also be put in place to divert water away before reaching or impacting exposed or vulnerable areas
