Yorkshire Flood Resilience has launched a series of free training modules to help develop a better understanding and awareness of property flood resilience measures among business owners and landlords across the region, as well as modules aimed specifically at professionals working in the property sector, covering flood risk and resilience.
Funded by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and led by City of York Council, Yorkshire Flood Resilience was set up to raise awareness of property flood resilience measures, a term used to describe measures that reduce the risk of flood damage to properties, speed up recovery and minimise the amount of time businesses are out of action after flooding.
The new training modules have been created to help people learn about property flood resilience, including the different approaches and how they work, the methods you can use to make your property more resilient to flooding and what to consider when installing property flood resilience measures.
There are also modules aimed at professionals working in the property and flood sectors, covering how we assess flood risk, its importance in the planning process for new developments, and who’s responsible for what in flood risk management.
Yorkshire Flood Resilience Project Manager Steve Wragg said: “Communities across Yorkshire face a variety of different flood risks, but many landlords and business owners don’t realise that there are steps they can take themselves to make their property more resilient to flooding.
“This free training will help businesses and landlords to understand more about what property flood resilience is, how it works and its benefits, but there are also modules explaining some of the different property flood resilience measures available to people. The training modules aimed at the wider public are useful to home owners, as well as business owners, but there are also some specialist modules aimed at professionals working in the property and flood sectors. I’d encourage anyone who would like to learn more about property flood resilience to visit the website and access these informative, free resources.”
The training modules for businesses, landlords and homeowners and those for property and flood sector professionals can all be accessed here. The website also features a wealth of information and free resources for businesses to download, including a flood action pack and a flood alert list.
