What is property flood resilience?

Property flood resilience is a term used to describe measures that reduce the risk of flood damage to our properties, speed up recovery and help us to move back into our properties quicker after flooding. These measures are installed in our homes or businesses to make them less vulnerable to flooding. Property flood resilience solutions are bespoke to each property. When installing them, the aim is to identify the measures that are most appropriate for the property, the type of flooding you face and the need to minimise damage and give you peace of mind.

What are the different measures?

The different types of property flood resistance measures include:

Measures to make your property more flood resistant, which prevent, delay or limit the amount of water entering your property. This approach gives you more time to move your belongings above ground level and move your family, pets and car to safety.

Measures to improve the flood recoverability (or resilience) of your home, which include using materials, products and construction techniques to adapt the inside of your property to minimise the damage caused if floodwater enters. This approach can reduce the likelihood of permanent damage to your home or business, and speed up recovery after a flood.
